So this week marked a honoured and treasured week in the life the average Brock University student.  My roommates and I have each had our own chance to do a pretty intense happy dance at some point this week. What is the cause for this celebration you may ask? We got our first instalment of OSAP!

For those of you who don’t know, OSAP is the Ontario Student Assistance Program. This is the government-run organization that helps students pay for their post-secondary schooling through grants (which you don’t have to pay back) and loans (which you pay back once you’re done your degree). Here is their website if you want to take a look.

This much celebrated first instalment will help pay for textbooks and tuition. Even if you think you don’t want to apply for OSAP, that application is how you see if you are eligible for the Ontario government’s 30% off tuition grant which you can read about in the link below. This was a new program that started last year but I have found it really helps when you’re trying to pay for school.

At my house, we try and make the small things special like TV show premieres and National Dessert Day (its October 14th if anyone was interested).  Part of balancing school and life in general for me has always been trying to celebrate the small things.

To all those out there who are doing the OSAP Happy Dance, leave a comment about your experiences. I know for a fact I am not the only one who does this! What other things do you celebrate in university life?
