Helllllo!
For the past week, Brock Dance members have been rehearsing at three rehearsals (in-studio, technical, and dress) to prepare for the Brock Dance Recital, called ‘Leave It On The Dance Floor’ that was held yesterday. Everyone’s hard work paid off because the show went on smoothly with limited glitches 🙂 (A special thank you goes out to our Executive team for that!)
Kyla and I choreographed a dance for our Musical Theater class to the original song ‘Footloose’. Our 14 dancers wore converse or converse like shoes, black tights (jeans for our guy), coloured suspenders and a t-shirt to match their shoes. Our dancers did AMAZING on stage and we are sooooo proud of them! You have to understand that this class is mixed ability and no one gets breaks in the cardio work-out routine for 2 minutes and 20 seconds. And they nailed it! Due to our dancers’ positive energy, optimism in our class, and so many other factors, Kyla and I received Teachers of the Year award! We were so surprised and felt honored. 🙂
I was in four other routines for the show: hip hop, jazz, ballet and lyrical. Despite some quick costume changes (thank you to Ellie for helping me!), it was a thrill. Being on stage is the best feeling for me. It is like escaping to a whole other world of rhythm, movement, and peace. I always look forward to Brock Dance’s recital each year. If you get the opportunity to be a part of Brock Dance or to watch the show – you will be blown away!
*I want to thank everyone (family, friends, and peers) for your support this year!
None of the dancers in Musical theatre this year, myself included, could have performed as well as we did yesterday without the two best teachers in ALL of Brock Dance. If either of them teach next year, no matter what style, any dancer at any level would be lucky to have them!!! You BOTH made my year a lot more fun! And for that I am forever thankful!
