Through movies or stories from students, guidance counselors or teachers, you may have created an image of what university life is. The summer before coming to Brock I was worried about succeeding academically, keeping up with readings, making new friends and basically how to stay sane. Are you feeling this way yet? I am here to clarify any worries you have.
A quick idea of what university life is like:
-You will develop a skill called time management to balance social and academic life
-Sleeping becomes a hobby (you will have some nights when you life off of 3 or 4 hours)
-There is A LOT of reading, regardless if it is online or in books (there will be a time when you will prioritize which readings to complete to be successful in school)
-You will get homesick eventually, so appreciate your parents/guardians/family and start saving up money to travel home
-You may feel like this guy on the right – broke – and it is ok because everyone is in the same boat
-When you study, limit yourself to fun websites like Facebook, myspace, pinterest, e-mail, etc.
-Find a way to keep yourself passionate about your education. At the very least, remember that you are paying a lot of money to be here!
No I am not here to scare you. On top of all of this, you are going to meet some amazing people, have some crazy adventures and create life-long memories 🙂
Leave me comments if there are any concerns that I have not addressed and I will reply to you asap! 🙂
