Hey Friends!
Here is another blog about my series of classes I have taken with Recreational Services at Brock University. On Saturday I attended a self-defense class for the first time!
Cody was my instructor for this class on Saturday. It was a small class. I found this beneficial because we had more time to master each technique and we also had the opportunity to try each move on the instructor! Cody’s classes focus on self-defense techniques for you to react in real life situations. The two hour class started with a review of techniques from previous weeks, including methods to get out of choking (ie: raise one arm straight up and across your body to pin the attacker’s hands under your one armpit), kneeing the groin, facial defense, and the head lock position to protect your head and reduce chance of breaking your arms.
Some techniques I learned are to bring a standing attacker (of any height & weight) to the ground two different ways: flip over the hip or by locking their arm and pushing their head away to circle to the ground. I was also taught how to stand up safety without loosing concentration. After one class I feel empowered – sounds cheesy but it is cool!
Remember that Rec Services classes have discounted student prices. Most classes are held for eight week periods. Seriously, where else are you going to learn this stuff in a safe and fun environment?!
Hey guys I am the self defense instructor glad you enjoyed the class, just wanted to note that the picture of the eye gouging was not conducted in my class…great times learning to protect yourself and the ones you love.
