Shaffer & Co., grain merchants, Chicago, 1904-20; pres. Richmond (Ind.) St. Ry. Co., 1888-93; organized syndicate and purchased all the st. rys of Indianapolis, and was pres., 1889-93; pres. Asbury Park St. Ry. Co., 1892; built Chicago & Englewood Electric Ry., 1893; pres. and pub. Chicago Evening Post, 1901-31; pres. and publisher Indianapolis Star, Muncie Star; owner and pub., Louisville Herald 14 yrs., also Rocky Mountain New and Denver Times. Methodist. Clubs: American (London); Denver (Denver); Chicago, Union League, Pres (pres. 1910), Glen View. Congressional Golf; Office 111 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago Ill. Died Oct. 5, 1943.
