CATTELL NOT SURPRISED.

But He Would Not Discuss His Dismissal for the Present.

Special to The New York Times.

GARRISON, N.Y., Oct. 1 — Professor Cattell refused to make any statement tonight on the matter of his dismissal by the Columbia Trustees. He was found in his home, Fort Defiance, which stands on the very peak of the lofty hill overlooking the Hudson River, six miles from here.

"I guess I know what you want of me, he said to THE TIME’s reporter.

"Did they act on Dana’s case, too" he asked. When told that Professor Dana had also been dismissed, he said "I am sorry, but I am not surprised. I do not want to give out any statement now, but will have to think the matter over carefully."
