Editors' notes

We have included this note as part of the biographies of Harriet and W. I. Thomas. Edward Thomas was their youngest son. The dating of his service reported here is inconsistent with press report from 1917 which places E.B. Thomas in the American mission in Petrograd. We suspect the the difference may be accounted for by different statuses within the service, viz., clerk vs. vice-consul.

E. B. Thomas, Chicago, Vice Consul at Harbin.

Washington, D. C., Sept. 1 — [Special.] — Edward B. Thomas, 5132 Kimbark Avenue, Chicago, has been appointed American vice consul at Harbin, the state department announced today. Mr. Thomas was formerly vice consul at Irkutsk and Novonicholievsk. He has been in the service since 1918.
