Dean's Message

Thank you for visiting our website. 
 
Important news is that our new extended Teacher Education program will begin operating in September 2015. It will impact both concurrent and consecutive Teacher Education. Those students who entered concurrent education programs prior to September 2015 will follow the current and former five year program. Our practica have always been longer than the minimum required and they will range between 90 and 100 days. Read more about Teacher Education in our Faculty of Education and all our programs here.
 
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Robert McGray, a tenure track Assistant Professor in the Department of Graduate and Undergraduate Studies. Dr. McGray's area of study is adult education. You can read more about Dr. McGray here.  As well, we welcome Dr. Steven Kahn who joins our Department of Teacher Education from the University of Calgary. Dr. Kahn brings with him international experience and a broadened interest in the areas of mathematics education, research methodology and curriculum studies. We also welcome Dr. Sandra Della Porta who will join our Department of Graduate and Undergraduate Studies in Education. Dr. Della Porta joins us from Concordia University and brings with her a wealth of experience in the field of early childhood education. And finally, Dr. Marybeth Fortune joins us in the Department of Graduate and Undergraduate Studies in Education. Most recently Marybeth was the Director, Master of Science in Childhood & Adolescence Education Programs at Daemen College in Amherst, New York. Marybeth's area of expertise is administration and leadership in education.
 
Dr. Jennifer Rowsell, Professor and Canada Research Chair in the Department of Teacher Education, and Director of the Centre for Research in Multiliteracies and the Reading Clinic, has been named by the Royal Society of Canada as a Distinguished New Scholar. This month, Dr. Peter Vietgen, Vice President of the Canadian Society for Education through Art will be assisting in showcasing artwork created by Canadian students  when he visits Estonia for the Eksperimentaart exhibition. And recently, Dr. Kimberly Maich’s work in the field of autism was featured during Brock University’s researcher series via monthly podcast which can be heard here.  Edited by Dr. Julian Kitchen, our most recent publication of our in-house refereed journal Brock Educationcan be found here.  On October 8, at Alphie’s Bistro on the Brock University campus, faculty members presented their research in the first instalment of the Distinguished Speaker Series: Abstract Conversations .  Upcoming events offered to the entire community include a presentation that will be held on October 31, 2014 hosted by the Centre for Adult Education and Community Outreach featuring Dr. Guy Proulx who will speak on “The Aging Brain".  On October 30th and 31st 2014 the annual Arts Matters conference will take place at our Hamilton Campus. This conference is designed Brock University's teacher candidates and focuses on arts integration across the curriculum. Finally, on November 10th 2014, as part of our Distinguished Speaker Series, Dr. Eric Bredo will present Mind, Nature, and Education”. 
 
We are engaged in expansion of our international research, teaching and learning partnerships. We have worked on numerous MOUs with international partner Faculties of Education including North-West University South Africa; Universiteit Ghent, Belgium; Australian Catholic University; University of Sheffield; Cape Coast University, Ghana; Mehmet Akif Ersoy University and Hong Kong University. These agreements include programs, research partnerships and exchanges between faculty, graduate and undergraduate students.  We continue to host numerous visiting international scholars and professors and extraordinary professor appointments. The Associate Dean Research and International is playing a lead role as Chair of the Dean’s International Advisory Committee. Some of our current international programs include the Centre for Adult Education and Community Outreach online non visa B.Ed; the ESL program in China offered by Continuing Teacher Education, the M.Ed ISP offered by the Department of Graduate and Undergraduate Studies and the Pre Masters Preparation Certificate Program. We offer teaching practica in nine countries. Our Faculty of Education is burgeoning with regard to international initiatives, with multiple research, program and unit partnerships and an extensive publication record relating to knowledge mobilization internationally.
