Dear Brock Student / Faculty Member / Teaching Assistant:
Brock University is participating in a nationwide survey of college students and faculty on the subject of academic dishonesty. This study is designed to get student, faculty and Teaching Assistant opinions about the current state of academic integrity at our nation’s colleges and universities. The survey is similar in design to studies conducted over the last twenty-one years at more than 125 colleges, involving more than 75,000 students, 8,000 faculty and 2,000 TAs. It will help to gauge the extent of the current understanding of cheating and plagiarism amongst faculty and students at Brock University, and to devise ways of addressing resulting educational issues. Feedback about the results of the survey will be available at www.brocku.ca/academic-integrity late 2013.
If you are at least 18 years of age, please participate in this survey, which takes about 15 minutes to complete. It asks how you view this important issue and how you feel your classmates do. You may also be asked if you have engaged in various behaviours that many might consider cheating. The hope is that you will go to the link listed below and complete this survey. The data collected will be treated with the upmost confidence, and all data submitted to Brock will not be linked with any individual identifiers (ie. We will not know who you are, only the complete survey data).
Your participation is entirely voluntary. However, your participation is very valuable to us and we truly hope you will consider taking the time to complete the survey. If you have any questions about any aspect of this study, you may contact Don McCabe at firstname.lastname@example.org or 973-353-1409.
The survey can be found at:
(Look for the Academic Integrity Survey panel on the left)
and is self-explanatory. Please note that if you are not yet 18 years of age you should not participate.
YOUR COOPERATION IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!
Very truly yours,
