Package was not an explosive

Niagara Regional Police investigators have concluded that a suspicious package found in a campus building is not an explosive device, and most campus operations have now resumed.
Classes scheduled for this evening in the Plaza building will take place, and the graduation ceremony for Denis Morris High School will proceed as scheduled.
The Student Alumni Centre will remain closed until further notice, as an investigation scene.
Earlier in the afternoon a student union staff member reported the suspicious package in an area of the Student Alumni Centre, which houses several food service outlets as well as the student pub and the offices of the Brock University Student Union. That building and the adjacent Plaza Building were shut down for several hours while police with a robot device examined the package. Several roads were temporarily closed and transit buses diverted.
Shortly before 5 pm police confirmed they had examined the contents and concluded it was not an explosive device.
A small number of afternoon classes in Plaza Building were cancelled because of the disruption. Please watch this website for updates on rescheduled classes.
