Brock rowers, come and celebrate 50 years this weekend
Published on October 23 2013
Rain or shine, all Brock rowers past and present are summoned to Henley Island this Saturday afternoon Oct 26, as Brock University Rowing throws a party to celebrate its rich heritage spanning 50 years.
The 2013 Bash at Henley Island begins at 4 pm, following the OUA rowing finals scheduled for that afternoon. During the afternoon OUA racing, a special tent for Brock alumni will be set up near the boathouse.
The 4 pm barbecue will be held indoors at the Alumni clubhouse at the top of the island, and will proceed regardless of weather.
A highlight of the day will be a ceremony honouring key people whose support or involvement has been instrumental to the success of generations of student athletes. At 5:30 pm, Brock Rowing will recognize special guest and long-time supporter David Howes by naming a rowing shell in his honour. Boats will also be renamed to honour two Brock coaches and two athletes who represented Canada at the Olympics, and for Henley Island Helpers.
The festivities will also include the unveiling of a plaque commemorating the induction of the 1972 mens team into the Brock Athletics Hall of Fame.
