Barry W. K. Joe, Director, Centre for Teaching, Learning and Educational Technologies

Barry W. K. Joe was appointed director of the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Educational Technologies (CTLET) on Aug. 1, 2010, a position he held previously from 1998 to 2003. Upon completing his PhD in Germanic Languages and Literatures at the University of Toronto in 1980, he joined Brock's Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies as an assistant professor. He was cross-appointed to the Department of Communication, Popular Culture and Film in 1996 where he taught in the Digital Culture stream. In 2003, he established the Centre for Digital Humanities and was appointed its founding director, teaching foundation courses in Interactive Arts and Science.

The CTLET supports, promotes and advances the quality of teaching and learning at Brock University. This mandate includes fostering pedagogical innovation as Brock moves forward with new and diversified approaches to teaching and learning.

Joe has been involved in educational technologies and institutional policies related to these technologies over his 30-year career at Brock. He is the recipient of the Brock University Distinguished Teaching Award (1999), the national 3M Teaching Fellowship Award (2000), and the provincial Leadership in Faculty Teaching Award (2007).
