Brock celebrates International Open Access Week, Oct. 21-27

Open Access Week, now in its sixth year,is a global event celebrating free, immediate, and online access to scholarly research. Events are held around the world to highlight the benefits of Open Access and to help inspire greater participation in this exciting evolution in scholarly communication.

The James A. Gibson Library welcomes the Brock community to join this celebration by participating in the following events:

Monday, Oct. 21

·         12-1 pm -- Panel discussion: Experiences with Open Access publishing. Location: Sankey Chamber

·         2-3 pm – Authors: know your copy-rights. Location: Sankey Chamber

Wednesday, Oct. 23

·         2-3 pm – Opening up copyright: new freedoms and resources. Location: e-classroom,

Friday, Oct. 25

·         11am-2pm -- Open Access: Fact or Fiction prize wheel. Location: Library entrance, Schmon Tower

The Library actively supports Open Access with several initiatives:

Library Supports Brock Authors: OA Publishing Fund

The Library has made $10,000 available to assist researchers who want their work published in an Open Access journal.


Scholarly journals at Brock: the library hosts/publishes five Open Access, peer-reviewed scholarly journals including Brock Review, Voix plurielles, ti<, Brock Education, and Teaching and Learning
