PD Day Programs

Keep the kids learning and having fun while school is out for the day! Youth University is offering programs on PD Days that will appeal to youth who are in grades 4 to 8.

Programs run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, and for the convenience of working parents, we offer complementary before and aftercare from 8:10 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 4:50 p.m.

Cost: $35 per camper per day
$32 per camper per day if you are registering multiple campers or for multiple days

Jr. Robo Tech
Back by popular demand, this radical robot camp is an introduction to building and programming robots using LEGO Mindstorms Robotics. Learn how to build and operate intelligent robots that can sense and respond to their environment.

Jr. Marvels of Magic
Ever wonder how Harry Houdini and David Copperfield became so famous? Learn the tricks of the trade as used by magicians as you perfect your card, coin, ring and illusion tricks! Dazzle an audience of friends and family at the end of the day at the YU Magic Extravaganza…they won’t believe their eyes!

Sr. Epic Engineers
Do you like to design and build things? Come solve towering design challenges and discover how the professionals solve engineering problems! Use special software to design a bridge, cities and put your building skills to the test throughout the day! Are you up to the challenge?

Jr. Robo Tech: Vehicle Challenge
Build it, and they will come! Your team will compete to design and build the fastest, strongest, smallest, largest, lightest, heaviest, most maneuverable, most durable, and coolest Lego Mindstorm robot vehicle to accomplish a variety of tasks.

Jr. Greek Mythology
Are you intrigued by Greek legends? Join YU on Mount Olympus as we explore the art and science behind ancient Greece! Delve into mythology, Greek deities, and host your own Olympic event!

Sr. Stop Motion
Have you ever wanted to create your own movie? You and your team will use Lego and clay to sculpt, record, and create voice-overs as you produce your very own stop-motion movie!

Welcome to Youth University’s Mission Control at Brock Space Center! Get ready to become an astronaut as you build your own rocket and taste space food. Learn about space exploration, transportation, galaxies and the universe as you prepare for the exciting mission at the end of the day!

Drive under, over and straight through it! You and your teammates will design, build and program a Lego Mindstorm robot to dodge or destroy every obstacle that gets in the way.

Jr. Chemical Concoctions
Discover how to create giant bubbles, make colour-changing paint and create your own snack slime! Become a chemist during this exciting week of zany experiments as we use normal household items to create interesting chemical reactions!

Sr. Design Architects
Imagine, design, and build! Learn how the pros design and build sound homes by using sustainable building techniques like straw bale construction, living roofs and resourcing materials. Test the effectiveness of different kinds of insulation and southern design exposure to make use of natural lighting!

Ground control to Major YU…you and your team need to save the Earth from intergalactic emergencies. Design and program a Lego Mindstorm robot to salvage space junk, stabilize the atmosphere, and ensure that the galaxy is safe before the end of this adventurous day! This camp is out of this world!

Jr. YU Zoo
Do you love animals? Join us on an adventure around the world as we take a look at famous zoos and exotic animals. Learn what it takes to run a zoo and care for animals as you create your own public zoo, complete with animals in their unique habitats.

Sr. Video Academy
Are you interested in video production? Learn the entire production process, from scriptwriting to sound recording, digital video camera techniques, to critical viewing skills and digital editing.

Jr. Robo Tech: Virtual Ocean
Join the prototype design team for the YU Oceanic Institute as they develop and program Lego Mindstorm robots to complete a variety of tasks that will assist marine experts in years to come. Prepare to test your designs in a dry-land simulation and propose your prototypes to the marine team!

Jr. Character Creations
Go beyond Wolverine, Wonder Woman and Spiderman as you create your own comic book character and make him or her come to life! In this camp you will learn to draw and create dialogue like the pros. Make your character come alive as you build on your ideas to create your very own comic book.
