Meet Our Transfer Students

Mohadeseh attended a university in Dubai where they studied International Business. The goal from the start was to transfer to Canada, but choices were limited due to marks. Their school introduced them to Brock, and it stood out to them: the website looked professional, the course descriptions sounded interesting, and there was a good explanation of transfer student choices. In a word, they were impressed. In the end they accepted Brock’s offer (over another popular choice) because they had a gut feeling: Brock felt more transparent and more welcoming. They were pleased with the number of credits transferred.

“Arrival” at Brock was an isolating and overwhelming experience for Mohadeseh, both as a student in general and as a co-op student, but their Academic Advisor helped them sort out many of the academic-related issues they were having. BU101 was their favourite preparatory program; they described it as the “perfect” prep program for incoming students. Transfer Connect Online helped them meet other transfer students and made them realize that they were not the only person feeling overwhelmed.

Mohadeseh’s longterm goal is “to create a social enterprise (or work in one) in the future and introduce a very unique commodity to the market.”

Mersana’s longterm goal is “to create a social enterprise (or work in one) in the future and introduce a very unique commodity to the market.”

Eden attended Niagara College where they completed their ECE diploma. While in their placement, Valerie learned about Brock’s BECE program from two Brock students who presented in their class, and it sounded interesting. Looking into the program further, Valerie discovered that it was one-of-a-kind.

The transfer from Niagara was easy: Eden talked to their Academic Advisor who knew about the BECE degree, and attended a Brock information session where they completed on-the-spot admission.

Prior to their fall start, Eden completed a Scholarly Writing for Adult Learners course which helped a great deal. In the fall they were intimidated at first and did not know what to expect, but soon realized they had nothing to worry about: there were a lot of supports and services available, and there were a lot of people in their program who were just like them. Eden commented that Transfer Connect helped them a lot, and it was a great way to make friends online.

Eden’s end goal is to go to Teacher’s College so that she can be a kindergarten teacher.
