The Evolving Landscape of Collegiate Esport: Present and Future

Mark your calendars for April 18th, 2024 at 12pm, because Dr. Taylor McKee will host a captivating free webinar about the Future of Esports on Collegiate campuses. The dynamic and multi-faceted global Esport industry is projected to eclipse $2 billion in 2024 and that growth has extended to collegiate campuses worldwide. Esport’s presence is steadily expanding across Universities and colleges in North America in various capacities, with more investment, organization, and standardization adding to substantial interest among student population. Our webinar analyzes this emerging collegiate Esport landscape with experts from across North America. Come and join a discussion with collegiate Esport leaders as we discuss the present and future of this emerging and exciting sport industry.

Panelists

Danielle is the Director of Esports at Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Fl. Florida Tech is dedicated to fostering community and competitive growth by dedicating a two-story building to the program. Prior to Florida Tech, she built an Esports program from the ground up at Lawrence Technological University. She started her career in the healthcare industry, which allows her to bring a wellness focused perspective to the Esports industry. She’s known for her dynamic leadership and commitment to fostering student growth.

Keaghan Norring is a 4th year Sport Management student who has a passion for Esports and sport development. He has been involved with the Brock Esports Club since 2020, as well as casting for CVRE in 2021.

Hi, my name is Madi and I’m currently working within the game industry as a Producer for Xbox Game Studios. While studying Cognitive Science at UC Berkeley in 2018, I founded a University Esports league with colleagues from Baylor. Our league, Collegiate VR Esports (or CVRE), has since grown to include hundreds of student teams from around North America and Europe and has spun off into new tournaments. I’m extremely passionate about career mentorship, mental health support, and making gaming and esports spaces more welcoming for everyone. Looking forward to meeting you all!

Tyler Hetherington is the Events and Activities Coordinator within the Fanshawe Student Union (FSU). Tyler developed and implemented Fanshawe’s Ultimate Esports League (FUEL), which has been the hub for Esports on the Fanshawe College campus. Under the direction of Hetherington, the program has flourished to include individuals and teams across multiple games competing in local and national tournaments. Additionally, Tyler is a board member for Esport Canada, an Esport instructor at Keyano College, and head coach of Fanshawe College’s Esport team.

This event will be hosted online at 12:00pm, April 18th.

2024 Hope on the Horizon Workshop

HOPE is coming to Brock University this May! Join us for the Hope on the Horizon workshop at Brock University with Sport Law and the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport May 24-25, 2024 (it’s after the long weekend!). Come learn alongside other sport leaders from business, nonprofit and government sectors – and build your competence – and confidence – in the following areas:

– Good governance – to build a healthy sport and recreation environment;

– Risk management – to address immediate high-level risks and pressing issues;

– Safety – to ensure a positive experience for all;

– Inclusion and diversity – to embrace all participants;

– Values-based leadership – to guide difficult decision-making;

– Legal ‘best practices’ – to meet mandatory regulations and legislation.

Engage in thought-provoking discussions, gain valuable knowledge, and connect with like-minded individuals who are passionate about promoting integrity in sports.

Tickets are priced at $60 (+online fee), which includes the Saturday workshop and Friday social. Appetizers, a Light breakfast, and Lunch will be included.
