Teaching and Learning in the Social Sciences

 

The various Social Sciences have different objects of study, but they share an emphasis on people. The same holds true for our approach to teaching. Offering innovative and cutting-edge pedagogical methodologies and using new technology in the classroom, we never lose sight of the most important aspect of learning — human contact.

 

As teachers, we strive to make what we teach relevant and engaging. We recognize that individual students are at different stages of their educational journeys. In addition to our large and small group learning settings, we offer various experiential learning opportunities in the form of co-op programs, internships, practica, field courses, and service learning.  Students also have the opportunity to complete various articulated degree/diploma programs with college partners around the country.  In our small group learning environments, students learn to present and debate arguments with their peers and faculty members. They learn how to think critically, and to apply their knowledge and skills to the world in which they live. We open doors to exciting and rich possibilities that encourage students to want to learn more. Students become members of a community of scholars.  The Faculty of Social Sciences is proud of its tradition of pedagogical excellence and its award-winning teachers.
