Orienteering Event

By tradition, the Canadian Cartographic Association (CCA) holds an orienteering event at their annual general meeting. This event is open to all Congress delegates and especially CAG members who would like to train their map reading skills. It is timed to occur on Wednesday, May 28, from 17:30 - 19:30 (meeting location is the east-facing entrance to the Cairns Building). Loris Gasparotto, the Cartographer in the Department of Geography at Brock University, has created a new map for the event. Please sign up at the CCA registration desk (Plaza Building, Room 600F) no later than Wednesday, May 28, at 17:00. There may be a minimal charge. In lieu of the usual post-event libations, we plan to head to the PKN which starts at 20:00. There will be a standard cash bar and light snacks available at the event.

PechaKucha Night (PKN)
On the evening of Wednesday, May 28 (20:00 - 21:30 PM in the Cairns Atrium) the organizers of the CAG, CCA, and ESAC are co-hosting a PKN. Students who wish to present on a topic of interest to them within a venue that more relaxed and less formal than a classroom or conference setting are encouraged to submit abstracts for this event by March 14 (see abstract submission guidelines on the CAG 2014 homepage). Our goal is to provide a highly structured, yet immensely entertaining evening where students are able to present on an aspect of their academic career that is very important to them. This could be their honours or graduate thesis, a particular field of study that inspired them, or a field trip that they went on. Anything is possible as long as it falls within the topics covered by the associations they are affiliated with.

The banquet will be held on Thursday, May 29, from 6:30 to 10:30 PM at Ravine Vineyard together with our colleagues and friends from two cognate Associations (i.e., the Environmental Studies Association of Canada and the Canadian Cartographic Association). Once you have registered online, you can also download and complete a CAG 2014 field trip and banquet participation form (English Version; French Version) to indicate your interest in participating in the banquet.

The cost per person is $70 (including transportation). Buses will depart Brock University at 6:30 PM that evening. Information regarding the bus departure location will be posted on this page in the near future. This information will also be made available at the CAG 2014 registration desk.
