Chancellor's Chair for Research Excellence

Brock University recognizes the excellent scholarship of its faculty members. To encourage and sustain high levels of scholarly performance, Brock has established the Chancellor’s Chair for Research Excellence, open solely to Brock tenured and tenure-track faculty.

Chair holders will be individuals who have demonstrated exceptional promise of outstanding contributions to scholarship and/or have an established, exceptional track record of scholarly excellence.

Recipients of the Chancellor's Chair for Research Excellence can undertake a specific three-year program of research leading to a significant development in their scholarship (e.g., a scholarly monograph, a state-of-the-art review that might lead to a seminal series of scholarly lectures). The research program for the Chair may be integrated within a broader research and scholarly focus.

Each awardee agrees to give at least one public lecture on their research to the Brock University community.

Recipients of the Chancellor's Chair for Research Excellence receive an annual research grant of $20,000 over three years, of which up to $6,000 per annum may be taken as an additional stipend for the period of the award or as a Release-Time Stipend.

Deadline for submission is MARCH 1 of each year (no exceptions). Should March 1 fall on a weekend or holiday, the deadline will be 4:30 p.m. on the next business day.

A note about the Release-Time Stipend:

RTSs will be paid at actual cost. RTSs require the approval of the Chair/Director and the Dean and will be subject to the University’s policy that individuals may not normally be released from more than 50 per cent of their normal teaching load in any academic year. Individuals may not receive a release-time stipend and then take on an overload of instructional responsibilities.

Awardees will each give one lecture to the Brock University community.
