Intro to Competitive Swimming

Olympic Way Mini Squad

Swimmers ages 6-7 years old are invited to learn the FUNdamentals of competitie swimming. An experienced coach works with a small group to ensure individual instruction for this younger age group. Similar to the Junior Squad program, a shorter, fast-paced lesson focuses on teaching competitive a stroke technique including racing starts and flip turns.

Prerequisites: Swimmer 4, or able to swim 25 metres (1 length) front crawl and 25m backstroke. Must be safe and comfortable in deep water. Ages 6-7 years.

 

Olympic Way Junior Squad

Young people ages 8-12 are invited to enter the exciting world of competitive swimming. Experienced coaches present the techniques of the sport—the four competitive strokes (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle), racing starts and turns—in combination with an introductory fitness program.

Prerequisites: Swimmer 5, 8-12 years.

 

Teen Competitive Skills

A recreational training program for teens interested in improving their fitness or competitive swimming skills. Emphasis is on skill development in conjunction with a fitness program. Perfect for the high school athlete searching for skill improvement, swimming basics for triathlon, or simply looking for a fitness activity.

Prerequisite: Swimmer 6, age 13; Olympic Way, high school or summer swim team experience or equivalent background is recommended.
