"Paidagogos: Education in Classics, Ancient and Modern"

Please join us for a day of discussion around ancient teaching practices and how the world of Classics affects our modern education and culture.

Program of Speakers:
Ms. Nadine Brundrett, Brock University: "Reading the Writing on the Wall: Literacy and Education at Pompeii"
Dr. Fanny Dolansky, Brock University: "Learning Letters and Forming Characters: Educating Upper-Class Children in Roman Society"
Dr. Kendall Sharp, University of Western Ontario University: "The Socratic Method as Pedagogy for Politics"
Dr. Nancy Rabinowitz, Hamilton College: "Academic Activism: Teaching Classics at Marcy Correctional Facility"
Dr. Rosemary Hale, Brock University: "Wrestlers Banished from Olympia: A Parable for Us?"

Tickets for the Symposium (which includes lunch) are $5 in advance or $7 at the door, or $35 for admission plus the banquet to be held at Fresco's. Tickets will be sold in the Department of Classics or can be reserved by contacting Stephanie Bergman or Eric Tincombe.
