Areas of specialization:
My primary areas of writing and teaching are Jane Austen, eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century fiction, and Animal Studies. I'm the author of Jane Austen and Animals (Ashgate, 2013) and General Consent in Jane Austen: A Study of Dialogism (McGill-Queen's University Press, 2000). My current book project, tentatively entitled "The Slow Professor," is in collaboration with Maggie Berg (Queen's University) and explores academic stress in the context of the increasing corporatisation of higher education.
