Manager: Les McCurdy-Myers
All of our Counsellor/Therapists are professionals with at least a Masters or equivalent degree in counselling and a minimum of ten years experience. They are very familiar with the wide range of personal issues that can detract from a student's academic performance and quality of life. They are committed to the philosophy that within the partnership of the counselling relationship individuals can discover or acquire the resources needed to deal with the issues disrupting their lives. They believe that good counselling results do not just happen during the time a student spends in the counsellor's office and encourage students to work independently between sessions to improve their condition. Feedback from students using the service consistently states high levels of satisfaction with the counselling they received and the relationship they had with their counsellor.
With a commitment to life long learning, our staff members regularly attend conferences and workshops to increase their knowledge and skill levels. They are active and involved in the Brock community and with their professional organizations.
In addition to the Manager, we currently have one male and three females working in our service. While all the staff work from a brief model of counselling, they may approach a problem from somewhat different perspectives. Since the working relationship with the Counsellor is so important, students are welcome to change to a different Counsellor if they believe that their current Counsellor's approach is not a good fit with them.
