Anamitra Shome, PhD, CPA, CGA is an Associate Professor of Accounting at the Goodman School of Business at Brock University. Prior to entering academia, he acquired over 10 years of industry experience in foreign exchange banking at a leading public sector bank in India. He joined the (then) Faculty of Business at Brock University in 1997, and was awarded his PhD a year later from Concordia University in Montreal. He is recognized for excellence in teaching, having won the Concordia Council on Student Life Award for Teaching Excellence in 1996, the Goodman School of Business Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2013, and the Brock Chancellor’s Chair for Teaching Excellence in 2013. His teaching interests are focused mainly on managerial and cost accounting, accounting information systems and business reporting using XBRL. Anamitra received his CGA designation in 2009.
Anamitra’s research interests revolve mainly around judgement and decision making, application of the Resources-Events-Agents (REA) approach to business situations, business ethics, international accounting (including Islamic banking), and corporate social responsibility reporting. He has published in several reputed journals and presented his research at numerous conferences in Canada and abroad. He is currently working on several projects relating to accounting education, including the use of emerging web technologies for ensuring student success with online courses. Rosemary Stefanac, CPA, CMA, Senior Credit Manager, Mid Market - Bank of Montreal
Rosemary Stefanac’s commercial banking experience spans over 25 years with progressive roles in account management, loans product, pricing and marketing management, portfolio management and operational risk & governance and currently her experience in commercial loans credit adjudication and approval in the Ontario market.
Rosemary received her Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from McMaster University in 1986, Certified Management Accountant designation (CMA) in 1992, and Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) in 2013. She is a graduate of the BMO’s Commercial Banking Officer Programme (1988), Management Development Programme (1990), and Managerial Leadership Learning System – General Manager (2010).
Over the years, Rosemary’s volunteer efforts have included coaching Grimsby house league basketball and soccer teams, Junior Achievement (ESIS and Diversity), United Way - Days of Caring, Canadian Women’s Foundation, McMaster University - MacServe Day of Service, and CPA Ontario events.
Carolyn Payette, CPA, CMA, Controller, St. Davids Hydroponics Ltd.
Carolyn graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University in 1983 with a BBA, after which she continued her studies in the CMA program, receiving her CMA designation in 1987.
After spending a few years in public accounting, Carolyn acquired extensive industry-related experience, serving as an accountant for TST Overland Express, a large transportation company in Mississauga, for almost 20 years. In 2007, Carolyn accepted the position of controller at St. David’s Hydroponics Ltd, a large greenhouse in Niagara-On-The-Lake producing bell peppers and eggplants. During her seven years at St. David’s Hydroponics, the company has undergone two major expansions, growing from 40 to 72 acres of greenhouse under glass. This has made the firm one of the largest vegetable greenhouses in Ontario.
In addition to her responsibilities as controller, Carolyn also serves as secretary/treasurer on the company’s Board of Directors. She enjoys the challenges of being both a controller and an active member of the management team. In addition to overseeing all aspects of accounting and finance, Carolyn is responsible for HR administration and participating in sales and strategic planning.
Carolyn has been associated with CMA BAREC since quite some time now, having actively taken part in the Brock CMA (now CPA) High School Day event ever since its inception seven in 2007.
