The mandate of Brock University’s Special Collections and Archives is to collect, preserve, display and provide access to records that fulfill the collection needs identified in the following groups: Brock University Archives, Special Collections, Private Archives (Niagara themed), and Autism. These records are maintained and made available to Brock University staff, students, alumni and to outside researchers in accordance to federal and provincial laws, University records policies and donor agreements.
If you are eligible for a tax receipt for your donation, the 'Gift In Kind
' form must accompany the 'Deed of Gift' form.
Brock University has developed its important collection of resource materials through the generosity of various donors over the years. Primary resources are important historical assets that should be preserved as part of a subject's documentary record. A document that might not seem important on its own could have great value in the context of the whole collection.
Special Collections and Archives encourages donations of papers, photographs, ephemera, books, emails, blogs, research, data, audio-visual material, and other items that are related directly to our collections themes of Brock University, the Niagara Region and the Autism Spectrum Disorder. Faculty Papers Policy
There is a distinction between the faculty papers of Chair or Head of a Department, and faculty papers surrounding teaching, research, or publishing. As part of the University Archives, the former will be collected as they relate to the governance and operation of the University, while the latter will be collected, only insofar as they relate to the collections scope within the Niagara Collection. There must be significant Niagara content.
A Committee is responsible for the decision to acquire faculty papers from teaching, research or publishing. This Committee is composed of the Archivist, Head of Collections and the University Librarian (or designate).
