Dr. Tony Volk (CHYS) has been awarded a research grant by the Council for Research in the Social Sciences (CRISS) to investigate bullying in undergraduates at Brock University. In an attempt to discover the costs and benefits of bullying, he will interview undergraduates about their experiences and outcomes with bullying in high school, as well as their experiences with current bullying. According to Dr. Volk, "Bullying can be an adaptive behavior in terms of obtaining resources, dates, and dominance. But what are the costs of bullying? We propose to do a retrospective and current study of undergraduate students to evaluate what the costs and benefits of bullying are. Identifying the existing costs and benefits of bullying will aid in the development of effective anti-bullying solutions." For details about this study, please contact Dr. Volk.
