There are two steps to registering to compte in Brock's 3MT® contest:
1. Please fill out the conference Participation Consent Form (PDF FORMAT), have it signed by your supervisor and return the form to Heather Junke, Communications Officer, Faculty of Graduate Studies, MC D 250.
2. Complete the online Registration — registration closes on Friday, Jan. 24
Please note: As part of the 3MT® online registration process, participants are required to submit a 200-word abstract written in general language that is understood by non-specialists.
Be sure to mark these dates in your calendar
• General Information Sessions:
Monday, Jan. 13, 11 a.m. OR Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2 p.m. Both sessions will be held in Cairns 336 (in the Child and Youth Studies department).
If you are interested in competing in 3MT® or have questions, plan to attend one of the two sessions. Brock's 3MT® organizer Professor John McNamara will lead these sessions to give an overview of Brock’s contest, including eligibility and rules, prizes, and tips about preparing a presentation.

• Close of registration:
Friday, January 24
Be sure that you have filled out and submitted a Participation Consent Form to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and completed the online registration.
• Coaching session:
Week of Feb. 3 (Date, time and location to be determined)
The one-hour power session will provide you with tips; insights into effective 3MT® presentations; crafting your research story so that it's concise and compelling; and how to take on the postures and presence of an engaging storyteller (ie. the 'hook', humour, the 'close'). The session will be recorded and posted online for anyone who is unable to attend.
• Preliminary round: All students registered for the contest must be available to participate in the preliminary round
Tuesday, Feb. 25, 4:30 to 6:45 p.m., Pond Inlet
The preliminary round on Feb. 25 will determine the top spots for Brock's 3MT® finals that are scheduled for Monday, April 7 as part of the annual Mapping the New Knowledges Graduate Student Research Conference.
(PLEASE NOTE: Participants who do not advance to the finals will be able, if they wish, to participate in the conference by giving an oral or poster presentation about their research. They will be contacted about this following the preliminary round).
• Brock 3MT® finals:
Monday, April 7, Plaza Building, (time to be determined)
The 3MT® finalists will compete during the 9th Annual Mapping the New Knowledges Graduate Student Research Conference. The winner of Brock’s final on April 7 will advance to the Ontario 3MT® Competition.
• Ontario 3MT® Competition:
Thursday, April 24, McMaster University, Hamilton, Ont.
The Faculty of Graduate Studies will cover expenses for Brock's winner to compete in the provincial finals.The Ontario provincial 3MT® winner will attend the Canadian national 3MT® finals at University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, MB.
