Research on Race and Gender Relations in Peru's Mining Industry

Dr. Ana Isla (Women's and Gender Studies)  has received a grant from the Council for Research in the Social Sciences (CRISS) to complete a project entitled, "Global Mining Pressures in Peru - Race and Gender Relations in the Struggles".   According to Dr. Isla, this project will "produce new knowledge about mining, its disorders and/or contributions to the advancement of women, peasants, and indigenous peoples. It will make a contribution across several disciplines, including contemporary debates on environmental justice, Social Justice, and Sociology as it examines the ecological antagonism grounded in the workings of economic growth. The lessons learned from these groups (peasants and indigenous peoples) will be important to gender, race, and ecofeminism studies because it can portray what a sustainable society might look like."
