Tom is a Professor of Applied Linguistics at Brock University. His professional interests include reflective practice and language teacher education and development. He has authored numerous books on language teaching and his new book, Reflective Writing for Language Teachers is forthcoming in 2013. His website is reflectiveinquiry.ca.
There is a longstanding recognition in the field of education that teachers must continually reshape their knowledge of teaching and learning. This knowledge is developed initially in teacher education programs, and can continue to be part of a teacher's education throughout their career through reflective practice.
This eight-hour certificate course* examines the theoretical basis for and research on reflective practice and suggests ways that teachers of any subject can incorporate reflective practice into their teaching. This class is interactive in nature so that teachers not only talk about reflection but also experience hands-on activities that engage them in reflective practice.
Through reflective practice you can:
- Become more confident in your teaching actions and decisions
- Gain greater insight before making informed decisions
- Learn to critically reflect on all aspects of your work
- Develop better strategies for intervention and change
*This is a non-credit certificate course and does not count towards a university degree program.
