Visual Arts Equipment Kiosk
The kiosk is located on the second floor of the building. The kiosk’s roll-up window opens on to the 2nd floor corridor beside the entrance to the Learning Commons, room MW229. It is staffed Monday to Friday, 9:30 am to 2:30 pm, and on Saturdays from 12 noon to 5 pm.
Current enrolled students are welcome to borrow equipment to fulfill class assignments. A valid student card is necessary for checking out, checking in or renewing an item. The James A. Gibson Library system controls the circulation of the equipment and issues overdue notices and fines if items are not returned on time.
Generally, equipment can be borrowed overnight (or from Friday to Monday), but special arrangements are possible depending on demand.
You can get an idea what items of equipment are available by typing, ‘mwalk’ as a Keyword search in the Library’s catalog. Basically, there are audio and visual recorders, microphones, analog and digital cameras, drawing tablets, lighting equipment, projectors, tripods and other stands, cables, and numerous other accessories.
First-time borrowers are asked to sign a form where they agree to loan the equipment under the terms set by the Department of Visual Arts, to find the equipment in good working order and to return it the same, or be responsible for repair or replacing it, if necessary.
The Marilyn I Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts Learning Commons
Open daily, 8:30 am to 8:00 pm; Saturdays noon to 5 pm. This facility is wheelchair accessible.
The Learning Commons is a 2-part quiet study and silent study space set aside to serve the needs of MIWSFPA students. It is a place where you can focus on your work and find some resources (technology and equipment) that are useful for you to complete assignments, in order to be successful students.
There are two dedicated iMac workstations that have some similar applications, but focus on separate media production.
The Silent Study room is equipped with mobile chairs with tablets so you can work alone or book this room for 3 hour group study sessions. It is provided with a flat screen display for presentations. Users please bring their own computers.
Any questions about the MIWSFPA Learning Commons can be sent to Lesley Bell, Learning Commons Coordinator, firstname.lastname@example.org
