Brock Cares Day of Service 2012 Volunteer Projects

<p>This service project was split into two parts. In the morning, volunteers created promotional materials for the on-campus blood drive and Life Bus program in conjunction with Canadian Blood Services. <p>This on-campus project was divided into two parts involving the United Way and Adopt-A-Road program. In the morning, students helped to collate donor packages for Brock’s Annual United Way Campaign. <p>This project took place at Youth University's Challenge Course. <p>Literacy Link Niagara conducted a marketing campaign to municipalities, non-profit organizations and health care agencies to promote their Clear Writing Services. Volunteers helped brainstorm ways to promote the new initiative. At this project site, students also assisted with mailing information packages to the target audiences. <br /><br />Location: Literacy Link Niagara office, St. Catharines<br /><br /><a href="http://brocku.ca/student-community-outreach/brock-cares/2012-service-projects-list">Click here for more information about Literacy Link Niagara.</a></p> [4]

<p>The Ontario Brain Injury Association in conjunction with Brock University developed a Certificate Training Program to provide professionals with the tools and knowledge to assist clients with recovery and function in everyday life following acquired brain injury (ABI). <p>Volunteers travelled to Start Me Up Niagara to assist with the weekend meal program. Students prepared and served lunch to clients as well as cleaned up after the meal. <p>Volunteers sorted and organized storage materials at the Lincoln County Humane Society. <p>Volunteers at this project site archived donated materials for historical and family research. <p>Volunteers attended the first annual Community Cup, a soccer tournament focused on fostering community spirit and creating a welcoming space for newcomers to Canada hosted by Welland Heritage Council. Volunteers assisted with set-up, provided directional support, logistical coordination, supervised the kids zone and served as "community spirit judges" at the soccer tournament.<br /><br />Location: Optimist Park, 4751 Dorchester Rd., Niagara Falls<br /> <br /><a href="http://brocku.ca/student-community-outreach/brock-cares/2012-service-projects-list">Click here for more information about the Welland Heritage Council.</a></p> [17]

<p>Volunteers interacted with residents of the Upper Canada Lodge and assisted with an outdoor fall clean up project which included weed removal and turning of soil around the building. <br /><br />Location: 272 Wellington St, Niagara-on-the-Lake<br /><br /><a href="http://brocku.ca/student-community-outreach/brock-cares/2012-service-projects-list">Click here for more information about Upper Canada Lodge.</a></p> [18]

<p>Touch-a-Truck lets children see big machines such as dump trucks and giant earth movers up close and it also raises funds in support of local literacy programs. <p>Volunteers attended the United Way’s annual Grape Stomp. Volunteers <span>poured and measured grapes, assisted with registration and sold 50/50 tickets. <p>Volunteers at this project site assisted with the rejuvenation of the Adult Respite Home at Community Living of Grimbsy, Lincoln and West Lincoln.
