The Physics Department was pleased to host alumnus and 2012 Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, Baldev Ahluwalia, for an afternoon last month while he and his family were in town to attend the Induction Ceremony. Baldev was being honoured in recognition of his swimming success and during the visit made a point to thank the department for the flexibility it provided him in order to be a successful student-athlete.
He visited with faculty and students and shared some of his memories of Brock and spoke of his journey since graduating. Ahluwalia graduated in 1993 and did his 4th year thesis under Professor Sternin. After studying medical biophysics at the University of Western Ontario he sought out an opportunity to apply his knowledge to specifically improving patient care. He now lives in Wisconsin with his wife and two children and works for GE HealthCare, as the Global MR Product Manager.
Ahluwalia shared with the group that he feels a great sense of accomplishment because the work he currently does, designing medical diagnostic scanners that can help determine the extent of disease, guide treatment, and change patient’s lives, is really an extension of the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance imaging work he started in Professor Sternin’s lab.
