Do you have good knowledge of Brock University and the St. Catharines/Niagara community? Are you interested in learning about different cultures and would you like to help someone become comfortable in Canada and at Brock?
Are you an incoming International student who is looking for someone to help you to become familiar with Canadian culture, Brock and the community of Niagara?
If you answered “Yes” to either of these questions, please consider applying to the BrockGuide program!
The BrockGuide program is a mentorship that is run through the International Services and Programs Abroad Office; it allows new International students to become familiar with Canadian culture and to integrate into Brock and the community of Niagara by pairing them with current Brock University students. The program runs from July through Orientation Week and continues for a few weeks afterward.
Mentors are trained to respond to routine questions about issues such as finding accommodation, using the Student Administration system, buying text books and getting around the Niagara Region. The program provides a great opportunity to understand new cultures and develop interpersonal skills.
Once a Mentor is matched with an International student, they will correspond via email prior to the student’s arrival in Canada. When the International student arrives, they can meet with their Mentor in person during Orientation week and work together in the weeks that follow. There is no set schedule to follow; the Mentor and the International student arrange their own time to meet, socialize and have fun.
