Call for ART

Brock University Community Learning encourages all Niagara residents to think, share, explore, and connect with others in our community. We believe Community is where we discover our strengths and interests, and feel a sense of belonging. Our connection to others and to the world begins with participation in our local communities. What does community mean to you?

Call for Art

<p><strong>Winner- Kaye Chang</strong></p><div>Community, in my opinion, is a place where you feel you belong. It's a place of learning, friendships, and working together to create a better world. In my piece (The colourful world) I represented this with children of all shapes and colours, reading, drawing, and playing in recreational activities. This is my way of showing working together and learning things. I drew them in a scene of lush green grass and trees to represent my strong feeling that a good community should care for their environment.</div><div>As you have noticed, my people don't have any faces. The reasoning towards this is a symbolic way of showing togetherness. It's an obvious way of showing that we all have something in common and that we all belong and yet are different too. That is what community means to me.</div> [1]

<p><strong>Honourable Mention- Quincy McColgan</strong></p><div>"Community in the Park."<br />A community is like a park it is best when several people often frequent it. It needs to have many <br />aspects to remain healthy other wise it becomes a place where people want to avoid <br />and quickly gets a bad rep. Parks need things like a play ground, washrooms, water fountains, soccer field, basket ball court, an of leash place for dogs, community gardens,  market days where locals can buy and sell food and crafts, wood burning ovens,  an ice rink and events like yoga,  theater, music, arts and tournaments can take place. It attracts everyone and everyone wants to go and be apart of it. This is how a community is built.<br /><br /> </div> [2]

<p><strong>Honourable Mention- Holley Corfield</strong></p><div>"Behind the Mountaintops" is an ink and water colour piece which shows a community nestled together behind mountains. It is a quite small community all together which need to work and live as a unit together to function.</div><div> </div> [3]
