The Second (and final) round of the Nicol Competition at Brock University will take place on Thursday, February 9th 2012.
Finalists comprise of five teams who have been invited to make a Business Plan Presentation. Finalists, in alphabetical order, according to Business name, are as follows:
First Class Student Rentals: Ben Beacham and Keaton Manjos
Little Miss Cupcake: Courtney Sokay, Farrah Amikons and Kevin Wassill
Lotus Fitness Consulting: Katherine Lucey and Taylor MacKenzie
Smack Talk T’s: Gregory Shishkov and Peter Shishkov
Trivium Industries: David D’Angelo
The Nicol Award is a national program designed to generate and reward interest in entrepreneurship on the part of undergraduate students in any faculty or field of study at participating universities across Canada. Launched in 1997, this program now awards over $100,000 in prize money each year to individual students or student teams who submit winning plans for their entrepreneurial business ideas.
The winning Brock team will receive a $5,000 cash prize, the second place team receives $2,000 and the third place team, $1,000.
In 2011, the winning team from Brock University, Mark Bittorf and Michael Churey’s “Conquer Climbing Centre” was one of six teams invited to compete in The National Nicol Competition, even though they did not win the award, many judges praised their solid business plan as well as presentation skills.
In 2010, the winning team from Brock University, Nico Verhoef and Marty Verhey were named the Winners of the 2010 National Nicol Award at the 6th Annual Nicol Entrepreneurial Awards held at the Chateau Laurier on March 30th. Nico and Marty impressed the national judges with their plan for Perfect Patch™ producing high-quality, lower-cost, locally-grown certified organic strawberries.
