Canadian wine industry pioneer Donald Ziraldo has been named the Brock University Faculty of Business Distinguished Leader for 2011/12.
The Distinguished Leader Lecture Series offers Brock business students an opportunity to hear the success stories of today’s business leaders — in both an intimate classroom setting and at a formal lecture presentation.
“It is a great honour for Brock’s Faculty of Business to welcome Dr. Ziraldo as its Distinguished Leader for the past year,” says Danny Cho, acting Dean of the Faculty of Business. “Dr. Ziraldo is a shining example of persevering against the odds and pushing the limits, and in so doing he helped establish what has become a vibrant and growing Canadian wine industry. It is thanks to his tireless efforts that Canadian icewine has become an internationally-recognized luxury brand and that we have the Vintner’s Quality Alliance to help brand Ontario wines made with 100% local product.”
A recipient of an honorary doctorate from Brock University, the Order of Canada and Financial Post Magazine’s Top 25 CEO’s of the Century, Donald Ziraldo is known globally as the co-founder of Inniskillin Wines. He has since launched two new icewines — Equifera and Ziraldo — and has recently been appointed managing director of Senhora do Convento, a unique and beautiful Port winery in Portugal that Dr. Ziraldo has been charged with bringing to the world stage.
In 2008, Dr. Ziraldo was awarded the Premio Masi, and in 2010 the Folio d'Oro in Italy. He is also the Board Chairman of Mobilotto Inc., a Director of the Shaw Festival Theatre and a Director of Shaftsbury Films.
On Tuesday, January 17, 2012, Dr. Ziraldo met with a small group of Faculty of Business student leaders in the morning and presented his lecture to the larger business student body.
