Student Community Outreach

Alternative Reading Week Niagara gives students the opportunity to get involved in a hands-on service learning projects during the Reading Break in February across the Niagara Region.

Students will choose their top two choices for volunteer projects for each day that they are interested in volunteering (between Tuesday, February 19th and Friday, February 22nd) and will be placed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Each project starts at around 9:30am (all have slightly different start times) and volunteers will be back on campus by 4:30pm. Transportation and lunch will be provided.

You may sign up for one, two, three, or all four days of service! Descriptions for each of the organization and volunteer projects can be found at:http://brocku.ca/student-community-outreach/brock-cares/project-options

All volunteers must commit to attending the Pre-Week Meeting taking place on Friday, February 15th from 3-5pm.

Understanding of Commitment

By initialing below, I understand that I am making a promise to our local community that I will fully participate in this experience. I am committing to showing up on time, ready to be engaged with the tasks our community partners have in mind, and will put in the day of service to the best of my ability. I am also commiting to attending the Pre-Week Meeting on Friday, February 15th from 3-5pm. By committing to all of this, I am also promising to let Student Life and Community Experience know at least 48 hours in advance if I am no longer able to attend the pre-week meeting or the volunteer projects I have registered for, so that time is allotted for my spot to be filled by another enthusiastic volunteer.
