Requesting Films

The James A. Gibson Library and the Instructional Resource Centre (IRC) have large collection of films in VHS and DVD formats. To find films, perform a keyword search in the Library Catalogue. Be sure you limit your search by Material Type (DVD or Video) or by Location (Sound and Video Collection OR IRC).

If you know the exact title of the film you are seeking, you can do a title search in the Library Catalogue.

If Brock owns the film you are seeking, you will find it on the 5th floor of the Library, or in the Instructional Resource Centre, within the Department of Education. The film can be checked out, or booked for you.

Requesting Films from Other Ontario Universities

If Brock does not own a copy of a film you are seeking, you can request it from other Ontario universities. Note: this service is only available to faculty.

Instructions for Brock University Faculty

Ensure that Brock University does not own a copy of the film, by searching in the Library Catalogue. Please note: if Brock owns the film, you are unable to request it from another university.

Assuming Brock does not own a copy of the film, search the Watmedia database. This database contains approximately 30,000 film titles held at all Ontario universities.

When you have located the film in the Watmedia database, make note of the six-digit call number provided in parentheses after the title in the item record. Also make note of the format you prefer (VHS, DVD).

Contact Phil Nardangeli phil@brocku.ca ext.3588 OR John Culp jculp@brocku.ca, ext.3588 and provide:

  • The call number, name and format of the film.
  • Your name, telephone extension and email address.
  • Classroom location, and start and finish times to ensure that the proper equipment to show the VHS video/DVD is ordered and delivered.

Please allow for a two-week lead-time.

You will be contacted by email to confirm the availability of the film. Two days before you are to show the film, you can pick it up at Audio Visual Services in Thistle 235.

Instructions for Faculty from Other Ontario Universities

Search the Watmedia database. If Brock's Gibson Library has the film you require, make note of the six digit call number and the format of the film (VHS, DVD).

Provide this information to the Interfilm booking contact at your university.

Please allow for a two-week lead-time.

If Brock's Gibson Library owns the film, the booking contact will send a request to libsvc@brocku.ca. This must be done through the Interfilm booking contact at your school.

If the film is available for lending, it will be sent out by IUTS courier.
