Brock Students shine at DECA U

Published on January 27 2010

From January 22nd to 24th, 50 members of Brock University's DECA U chapter travelled to Toronto for the 2010 DECA U Provincial Conference. Competing against almost 800 delegates from 14 universities in Ontario and Quebec, the team represented Brock University exceptionally well. Notable achievements include:

Jobin John: Top 5 in the written exam for the Financial Services category
Neil Felder - 2nd overall in the Hospitality category
Julia Kropeit - Top 5 in the oral presentation for Retail Management category
Praby Hunjan - 1st overall in the Human Resources category (with a score of 99/100!)

This year marked the introduction of a new category to the DECA U Provincial Conference - Quizbowl. In this category, teams of up to four participate in a business trivia game, where questions are thrown at them at a rapid pace. DECA U Brock's quizbowl team got off to an amazing start, winning by significant margins the first two games, and entered the semi-finals in first place. A close 21 -19 loss to Laurier in the semi-final ended their run.

DECA U Brock was also awarded the Membership Activity award for the second year in a row. This award is given to the chapter that has the largest percentage of registered members attend the provincial conference, showing the commitment of Brock's business students to not only academics, but also all the extra-curricular activities in which they participate.
