Blayne Haggart is a new faculty member in the Political Science department. The recent award that he received from the Council for Research in the Social Sciences (CRISS) will allow him to complete some field work in Mexico, where he will conduct interviews with a variety of Mexican officials, experts and activists on Mexican copyright policy. His project examines what the politicization of this subject means for future Mexican policy and its recently announced participation in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade negotiations. Dr. Haggart is grateful for the funding that has been received from CRISS, stating "The CRISS funding makes it much easier for me to continue my ongoing work on the politics of copyright, a subject that more and more people, in Mexico, Canada and around the world, are realizing is absolutely central to the politics and economics of the 21st century."
