Lights back on after early morning power loss

Published on April 09 2011

Brock staff were restarting or rebooting systems Saturday morning as electricity was restored to all parts of the campus after the University's power supply from Horizon Utilities was interrupted just after 5 a.m.

All University activities are operating as usual, including Recreation Services and any events that had been scheduled to take place on campus this weekend.

The problem briefly knocked out IT servers and email service.

Buildings on the west side of Glenridge Avenue experienced power outages ranging from 10 to 90 minutes.

The East Campus remained without power for several hours, but was back up by 9:30 a.m. Officials had earlier closed the International Centre; 573 Glenridge and East Academic Buildings 1, 2, and 3. As well, the Quarryview residence was on backup power while the supply was being restored.

Nearby commercial properties and other non-University buildings were also affected by the interruption.
