Local businessmen to be inducted into international honours society at Brock University

Roy Cairns and Anthony Lacavera to be recognized for their achievements
Brock University-Faculty of Business is set to induct two honourary members into the distinguished Beta Gamma Sigma honour society that recognizes the top business students and practitioners in the world.
Beta Gamma Sigma, with over 400 chapters worldwide, acknowledges academic achievement in the study of business and fosters personal and professional excellence in the practice of business. The induction ceremony will take place on Saturday June 12, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. the David S. Howes Theatre at Brock University.
"The Beta Gamma Sigma honour society celebrates and recognizes some of the most highly acclaimed business students and business leaders in the world," said Barbara Sainty, Interim Dean, Faculty of Business at Brock University. "This year’s inductees demonstrate an exceptional commitment to excellence, and we are thrilled to see them honoured for their achievements in business."

About Anthony Lacavera
Originally from Welland, Ontario, Anthony Lacavera is Chairman and CEO of Globalive Communications Corp., an emerging leading provider of next generation telecommunications solutions globally. Lacavera recently led Globalive to become the next major wireless services provider in Canada following the country’s wireless spectrum auction. About Roy Cairns
A lifelong resident of St. Catharines, Roy Cairns is President of Charlesway Corporation and Senior Counsel at Chown, Cairns LLP (retired). In 1953, he was a founding partner of the law firm of Chown Cairns, was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1973 and completed his legal career in 2003 as Senior Counsel to Chown Cairns. Dr. Cairns has been, and continues to be, a director of both publicly-traded corporations as well as closely-held private corporations. These positions, both past and present, include Lincoln Capital Corporation, Jumbo Video Limited, West 49 Inc., SIR Corp, and Home Capital. In 2009, Brock University presented an honorary degree to Cairns, recognizing him for his contributions to the region and distinguished service to the growth and development of the University. Dr. Cairns has also been philanthropically active in Niagara, supporting numerous charities and local associations over the years.

Only business programs accredited by AACSB International, The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, are eligible to set up a chapter of this honour society. Brock University received accreditation to AACSB in 2003, joining top international business schools, and in 2004 established a chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma. Membership in this honour society is offered only to the best business students: undergraduates completing third year and graduates in the top 10 per cent of their undergraduate programs or top 20 per cent of their master’s programs.
