You can find a code to embed on your website which enables users to ‘pin’ your site to their Pinterest page. You can also embed link back to your Pinterest page.
Using pinterest.com/source/brocku.ca allows you to see what other users have pinned from the Brock University website (which could be some of your content from another area of the site).
Pinterest allows you to pin directly from YouTube and Vimeo. Videos are very effective and engaging. For example, as a result of pinning their videos, Lion’s Gate's video views went from 200,000 to 400,000 in only five days.
80 per cent of pins are re-pins. Give something for others to re-pin by creating and adding original content. You can easily edit the URL so that when users click your photo, it will bring them back to a Brock University website.
Take advantage of these. Don’t just put a ‘.’ or a random character. Use hash-tags, as they hyperlink the word/tag making search results more effective. Also, put the link to your website right in the caption. It’s a direct way to tell the users where they should visit next for more information. Pinterest will automatically recognize the URL and bold it, making it stand out among the other information. This is great for new users who are unaware that once you click on a picture, it will bring you back to the original source.
You can change the link in which the picture directs the user to. If you’re using pictures from Flickr, make sure to change the link to a specific one that leads back to a Brock University website. You can do this by going into ‘edit’ on your pin, and just replacing the link that is already there.
You can simply add prices to the top corner of the photo by typing the ‘$’ sign in the caption followed by the price amount, and Pinterest will automatically add the price to the top corner. This is a great feature for Brock's revenue generating departments like Dining Services or the Campus Bookstore.
Use Reachli to upload content, track your clicks and repins and monitor the performance of your Pinterest page. Pinerly is currently not open to the public, so please email firstname.lastname@example.org for an invite.
