Map Library Policies
Open Stack Policy
Most materials
are shelved in open stack areas. All users are encouraged to browse
and select material at their leisure.
Access
All atlases, books, maps and databases can be searched using the
Brock University Library Catalogue. Flight line indexes permit access
to air photos. Air photo coverage may be viewed through the Brock Library
Catalogue as well.
Loans
Anyone
holding a valid Brock University Borrowing Privileges card is eligible
to borrow from the Map Library. Interlibrary Loan service is also available.
The Map Library does not participate in the Direct Borrowing program. External users can obtain a Brock University Borrowing card from the James A. Gibson Library Circulation Desk for a fee.
Loan Periods
Thematic maps and air photos: 3 days
Topographic and historical maps, as well as atlases are reference
use only and must be used in the Map Library.
Book materials: 1 week
Renewals are possible if a hold has not been placed on the item.
Digital data are
restricted by license agreements. See staff for details.
Fines for Overdue
Material
Fines for overdue material are in line with the University Library policy.
Costs for damaged/lost material will be levied. For further information,

Services and
Facilities
Map Library personnel are available to provide reference assistance,
on-line searching, cartographic interpretation and sources of information
regarding the purchase of material.
Map displays on specific themes can be mounted at the request of instructors.
The Map Library is equipped with computers with GIS, graphics, and word processing software; a large colour scanner; and a colour printer (Note: Business User Temporary Account fee of $10.00 /per visit for computer access). As well, there is a photocopier; work tables, mirror and pocket stereoscopes.
