ESL instructors usually teach 2-4 courses a day, Monday to Friday, during the length of the term. Instructors are responsible for the preparation of weekly lesson plans, tests, quizzes and assignments for their courses. They are also responsible for the marking and evaluation of in-class work and record keeping.
The minimum qualifications for a new non-credit appointment is a related undergraduate degree and a TESL Certificate with a supervised practicum; Master’s level qualifications in related areas – e.g. Applied Linguistics, English, Languages – are considered an asset; post-secondary teaching experience, especially in ESL/EFL, and particularly overseas, is very desirable.
