Reporting to the Associate Director, Academic Programs, the Academic Coordinator will be responsible for mentoring IELP Instructors ensuring their development in delivering quality course curriculum. Duties include: meeting with Instructors for course updates; reviewing weekly lesson plans, quizzes, tests and exams for ensuring all learning outcomes are maintained; designing curriculum and creating materials; selecting and ordering course textbooks; providing input for the continuous improvement of curriculum; assessing and providing feedback to Instructors; and updating the Associate Director as required. The Academic Coordinator will also instruct two (2) courses in each of the fall and winter terms. Other duties in support of ESL Services will be assigned as necessary.
The successful candidate will possess a TESL Certificate, a graduate degree in TESL, Applied Linguistics or a related field, and two to five years ESL instructing experience in all levels of Writing at a post-secondary level. The candidate must also be eligible to be TESL Ontario certified. The candidate must possess supervisory experience that included developing course delivery skills in instructors and a background that includes identifying opportunities for improvement in course curriculum and delivery and recommending/implementing changes. A thorough knowledge of pedagogical practices is essential. In addition, the candidate must have excellent written, communication and problem solving skills as well as proven abilities in time management and relationship building. Demonstrated proficiency using computer systems and a wide range of software packages including Microsoft Office, database software, e-mail, web software is required.
