Walk of Life Update!
About thirty walkers along with their families, friends, and even pets joined us for the 3rd Annual Walk of Life fundraising event on Saturday May 14th, 2011. Although the weather was rather dreary and disappointing, eager walkers and volunteering staff with their energy and enthusiasm made iit simple to forget the threatening May showers.
The walk was held at the Glenridge Quarry, on a path that was heart-appropriate; level terrain and a distance of two kilometres. Walkers completed the trail as many times as they wished, with some walking one round and others doing two or three. There was time to re-energize in between rounds or once finished with fruit, granola bars, and beverages.
Prior to walking, guests were welcomed by various Heart Institute volunteers and opening talks were given by Heart Institute Director Debbie O’Leary, as well as MP Rick Dykstra.
A variety of local organizations generously donated gift packages and certificates that were awarded to a total of 14 walkers as door prizes. Door prizes included: free rounds of golf, winery tours, pedometers, restaurant gift certificates, and more.
It was a good turn-out and very enjoyable to see all the eager members who were willing to join in. In total over $5000 was raised!
