Program entry date: September 2017

Research topic: Exploring Environmental Stewardship in the Niagara Region of Canada: How do elements of stewardship relate to success?

My name is Brooke Kapeller and I am in my second year of the Master of Sustainability (MS) program, a part of the Environmental Sustainability Research Centre here at Brock. For my thesis research, I am focusing on environmental stewardship in the Niagara Region. More specifically, on how elements of environmental stewardship relate to both successful environmental stewardship initiatives and positive social and ecological outcomes. For my research, I am taking a mixed methods approach that involves qualitative, quantitative, and geospatial techniques.

I am originally form Southern Alberta, but I moved to Ontario last August specifically to study at Brock. The transdisciplinary nature of the Master of Sustainability program really appealed to me, and the MS degree itself is very unique. This program has given me the opportunity to work with people from a wide range of academic backgrounds; I believe that this type of collaboration is essential for solving our current sustainability challenges.
