Junior/Intermediate Admissions


(Grades 4-10, emphasis 4-8)

Admissions Criteria for applicants applying to first year:

Concurrent BA Integrated Studies (Honours)/BEd

  • OUAC application code is BAJ
  • Direct entry from secondary school, minimum average high 70s in 6 Grade 12U/M courses, required English 4U and Mathematics 4U.

This is a five-year program to complete an Honours degree in Integrated Studies, with a chosen teachable subject (minimum 3.0 credits) or identified minor. Choices are: Dramatic Arts, English (first language), French (second language), Geography, History, Mathematics, Music (vocal), Science-General, and Visual Arts. A BEd degree is also completed.

Concurrent BSc Integrated Studies (Honours)/BEd

  • OUAC application code is BIJ
  • Direct entry from secondary school, minimum average high 70s in 6 Grade 12U/M courses, required English 4U and Mathematics MHF4U or MCV4U (minimum 70%). Applicants should consider additional prerequisite requirements for intended teachable subjects.

This is a five-year program to complete an Honours degree in Integrated Studies, with a chosen teachable subject (minimum 3.0 credits) or identified Minor. Choices are: Physical Geography, Mathematics, and Science-General. A BEd degree is also completed.

Concurrent BPhEd (Honours)/BEd

  • OUAC application code is BPJ
  • Direct entry from secondary school, minimum average low 80s in 6 Grade 12U/M courses, required English 4U, SBI4U, and Mathematics 4U.
  • Strongly recommended subject: Excercise Science (PSE4U)

This is a five-year program to complete an Honours degree, single major in Physical Education and a BEd degree.

Note: Graduates from these programs are required to have completed Grade 12U/M, or university courses in Canadian Geography and Canadian History (or similar courses that emphasize Canadian content), Mathematics, Science and English. These courses are EXIT requirements from the concurrent program not entry requirements.

These are limited enrolment programs. Although admissions will be primarily based on grades, other criteria, such as balance across teachable disciplines or teaching area of high need may be used in the selection process in any given year. Admission is not guaranteed by attainment of the minimum requirements.

Note: The Department of Teacher Education reserves the right to assign concurrent education students in their final year, to either the Hamilton or St. Catharines campus in order to secure school placements aligned with teachable subjects. Students are responsible for their own transportation for practice teaching and other activities related to the program.

Second Year Entry to Junior/Intermediate Concurrent Education Programs:

Students may apply and be admitted to second year if there is space available. To apply students must have a minimum 70 percent overall average in Year 1; their Year 1 program must replicate the 5.0 credit concurrent program requirements; the secondary school English and Mathematics program admission requirements must be met and also Biology for the Physical Education Programs.  Application form is available on the Concurrent Education web site from April 1. The completed document must be filed in the Concurrent Education Office by June 1. Late applications will not be accepted. Students should note that this is a limited enrolment program and admission is not guaranteed by attainment of the minimum requirements.
