Award Criteria

ABOUT

The Faculty of Education Alumni Achievement Awards honour the accomplishments of Faculty of Education graduates who are recognized leaders in either Research, Teaching or Service. Through their work in one of these areas, these individuals will be celebrated and honoured for their extraordinary achievements and contributions.

Who can nominate?
Any member of the Faculty of Education community - alumni, faculty, staff and students - may nominate a qualified candidate.

How and when
The award nominations must be made in writing and submitted no later than April 10, 2014. Alumni may nominate themselves. Current Brock University faculty and staff are ineligible for this award.


CATEGORIES

Research
This award honours an exceptional individual whose produced extraordinary research in the field of education and makes them an inspirational role model for future Faculty of Education graduates.

Criteria

  • Major achievements and contributions to scholarship locally, regionally, nationally and internationally including publications and creative works
  • Community/professional affiliations that have resulted in the advancement of research
  • Partnership work as a scholar
  • Support of scholarship and creation of a research culture
  • Volunteer service to the scholarly community

Alumni may nominate themselves and are required to provide two letters of reference. Current Brock University faculty and staff are ineligible for this award.

Teaching
This award honours an individual who has made an undeniable impact in their lives of their students through commitments that advance teaching and learning.

Criteria

  • Contributions to teaching in specific contexts
  • Professional accomplishments
  • Community/professional affiliations that have allowed for enhanced classroom learning
  • Volunteer work in the school and general community
  • Creation of new approaches to teaching and learning
  • Impact overall, locally and beyond

Alumni may nominate themselves and are required to provide two letters of reference. Current Brock University faculty and staff are ineligible for this award.

Service
This Award honours an individual who is dedicated to providing outstanding instruction and service outside of the classroom.

Criteria

  • Business/Professional accomplishments
  • Community/professional affiliations that have create opportunities for students beyond the classroom
  • Volunteer Service to the community
  • Partnership work
  • Creation of programs and support of individuals/groups that enhance education outside the classroom
  • Impact overall, locally and beyond

Alumni may nominate themselves and are required to provide two letters of reference. Current Brock University faculty and staff are ineligible for this award.

NOMINATION PROCESS

Each completed nomination for a Faculty of Education Alumni Achievement Award requires the following:

1. Completed Nomination Form
Nominator’s information including name, full address, phone, email, year of graduation (if applicable)

2. Letter of Nomination to include:

  • Nominee’s profile - name, full address, phone, email, year of graduation and program, other degrees
  • Nominee’s background - professional, academic or research achievements; public service and community achievements; overall accomplishments as they relate to the award
  • Permission of nominee for name to be put forward and acknowledgement of availability to attend awards event

3. Letter(s) of Reference
The individual providing the statement must provide his or her name, full address, phone, email, year of Brock graduation (if applicable); reason for supporting this nomination. PLEASE NOTE: If submitting a self-nomination, two Letters of Reference are required.

4. Additional documentation may include:

  • Nominee’s Curriculum Vitae
  • Additional Supporting Statement(s)
  • Special awards/honours
  • Information regarding alumni participation (if applicable)
  • Demonstration of public profile

Alumni may nominate themselves and are required to provide two letters of reference. Current Brock University faculty and staff are ineligible for this award.

The Faculty of Education Awards Committeewill review nominations and choose a recipient each year. If no suitable or eligible recipient is nominated, awards will not be issued, and the nomination process will re-open the following year.

Following the selection process, the Dean, Faculty of Education, will officially notify the award recipient with a letter of congratulation on behalf of the Faculty and an invitation to attend the awards event. A copy of the letter will also be sent to the nominator(s).
